According to Dr. Pamela Peeke, MD, even if you eat right and exercise, chronic stress and anxiety levels can prevent you from losing weight…
In fact, you might even gain some pounds. Even worse, you will gain this weight primarily in your belly area.
How Stress Works
Your body responds to physiological and emotional stress the same way.
Your brain acts as if you are in physical danger and releases a potent cocktail of hormones to prepare you to fight or flee. (Either way you need energy).
This way, you get a burst of adrenaline. At the same time, you get a surge of cortisol, which tells your body to replenish that energy even though you haven’t used very many calories in your stressed-out state.
This can make you very hungry. And your body keeps on pumping out that cortisol as long as the stress continues.
Constant Stress and Fat Gain
This stress is great in the short term, you would die without it. The problem is when the stress response does not shut off.
This feels kind of like low level anxiety… and I have found that a large percentage of the population is experiencing this.
What happens is that cortisol continues to be released into the system… and the fat gain begins.
Cortisol and FAT
Cortisol’s role in the body is to mobilize energy by tapping into your body’s fat stores and moving from one location to another… or to deliver it to tissues such as working muscles.
The problem is that with anxiety or a prolonged stress response… Cortisol will move fat from storage deposits and relocate it to fat cell deposits deep in your abdomen… a dangerous area to store fat.
And cortisol is the hormone that helps baby fat cells grow up into mature fat cells… thus causing even more weight gain.
How to Stop The Fat Layering Cortisol Effect
First, you want to stop the stress loop. There are many great relaxation tools you can use like meditation, yoga, and even a stress management course.
Deep breathing also helps.
In my Fat Loss Fat Loss report, (which every RealDose customer gets for absolutely free) I provide my favorite method which involves listening to your favorite piece of music. This is fun, and highly effective.
Herbal Remedies to Prevent the Stress Cortisol Response
Through the work of Richard P. Brown MD., Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, I have found an herb that has been a godsend to almost every stressed out person I have recommended it to.
The herb is called Rhodiola Rosea, which is an adaptogen… which means it helps your body adapt to stress. Even more important, it helps you feel like “you” again.
Even better, it helps to remove stress as a weight loss barrier.
Warning: Not All Forms of Rhodiola are Effective
There are a lot of companies selling Rhodiola from China or from sources not proven out by the research.
The form I recommend is grown and harvested in Siberia and licensed by the Russian government. And it is the form used in clinical research at UCLA… where it was able reduce General Anxiety Disorder in a ten week study.
The Real Dose Gets Results
I have also found that the few sources that do have the right form, do not provide enough of the Rhodiola to get the full effect. The proper daily dosage is 340mg at 3% rosavins (rosavin, rosin, and rosarin all in combination) and 1% salidroside.
Otherwise, it just won’t be as effective.
This is why I am so excited that we included this exact form of Rhodiola Rosea at the Real Dose in our Weight Loss Formula No.1.
Along with two other proven fat burners (that can each on their own double weight loss alone), this stress reducing compound can have dramatic effects.

Steve Sisskind, M.D.
Hi, I'm Dr. Steve Sisskind, Chief Medical Officer & Founder at RealDose Nutrition.
As a young physician, I struggled because my patients came to me with serious health issues, but I didn't have the right tools to help them. Medical school taught me how to put "band aids" on their symptoms with drugs and surgery, but not how to address the root causes of their problems.
Years later I discovered a better approach... based on the fundamental idea that the power of nutrition can transform your health and vitality. But there's a lot of confusion... What foods should I eat? Which supplements should I take? What does the science say?
I have dedicated my life to answering these questions... And I share this knowledge with you every day here at RealDose Nutrition.
I invite you to connect with me by joining my free private community. I've helped thousands of people and I know I can help you too!
